MACT/CACT

The CACT Center of Contemporary Art in Canton Ticino was established in 1994.

Its mission is to organise contemporary art exhibitions and launch thematic publications.

In 2009, the CACT transforms into MACT/CACT Museum and Center of Contemporary Art in Canton Ticino, whose focus is to increase a collection with deposits and loans from private art collectors.

The Brief

MACT/CACT is a contemporary art gallery in Canton Ticino and Mario Casanova, the director, wanted to digitalize the whole collection, news and exhibitions list on a single platform.

We created a system with a complex taxonomy that intertwined artists and artworks on dedicated pages. A summary page built with a full-page masonry grid and a sortable filter ease the user research.

MACT/CACT also hosts a library so we designed a customized system with librarian tools to create a digital catalogue with a cover, basic informations and an ISBN code for every entry. We also provided a mobile app that adds books to the collection through a simple barcode scan.

The website has been conceived to be easily updated by the museum staff, so we provided tutorials and guidelines as long as a basic assistance to make them independent in managing the various sections.
